Vintage Empire State Building pin with the Union Label on the back, circa 1968. Measures 1.25 inches in diameter. The pin says "World's tallest," but the Empire State Building was surpassed by the World Trade Center in 1971. Rising above Manhattan since 1931, the Empire State Building was completed in just 410 days, with crews adding an astonishing 4.5 stories a week. President Herbert Hoover officially opened it from Washington, D.C., by pressing a button that switched on its lights; a couple of years later, King Kong made the tower famous on the silver screen. Lou Reed Coney Island Baby Vintage LP

Coney Island Baby by Lou Reed. Vintage Vinyl, 12" in cardboard sleeve. Tested, very good playback quality. Released in 1976, Coney Island Baby was a striking change of direction after Lou Reed’s abrasive, largely wordless Metal Machine Music. Here, he turns toward melody and warmth: the title song is an autobiographical love song, often read as a tribute to his partner Rachel Humphreys. Visit while in New York City: Max’s Kansas City. This former downtown artists’ hangout and nightclub was located at 213 Park Avenue South, near Union Square. The Velvet Underground played their final show with Lou Reed there in 1970; a recording from the club was later released as Live at Max’s Kansas City. The club closed in 1981, and the address is now a deli.

New York Knicks foam finger bought at a game at Madison Square Garden in 1993. The New York Knicks have been part of the city’s basketball story since 1946. Their full name, the Knickerbockers, nods to an old New York nickname rooted in Dutch history.“ Knickerbocker” became associated with New York through writer Washington Irving. In 1809, he published a satirical history of the city under the name of a made-up Dutch historian, Diedrich Knickerbocker; the name caught on as a nickname for New Yorkers with Dutch roots and, more broadly, for New York itself.
